TRANSMUTATIO is a site-specific installation situated at the intersection of Minimal Art, Post-Minimalism, and contemporary phenomenological practice. Rather than functioning merely as a backdrop, the industrial architecture of the Inota Power Plant becomes an integral component of the work itself. The monumental, textile-covered vertical forms evoke the lingering presence of former machinery, while simultaneously suggesting spectral human figures or silent witnesses embedded within the site’s collective memory.
The installation does not depict identifiable bodies; instead, it renders absence, memory, and transformation perceptible. The motif of the veiled form translates a classical sculptural tradition-the drapery as a symbol suspended between concealment and revelation-into the language of contemporary installation. Light, mist, and the movement of the viewer become active material elements of the work, continuously reshaping its perception.
Rather than observing the installation from a distance, visitors move through its spatial environment, experiencing the process of transmutation through their own embodied perception. The industrial ruin is transformed into a site of memory, materiality dissolves into an immaterial experience, and physical presence becomes a contemplative, almost ritualistic encounter.
DUKAI’s wall-based works exist on the threshold between painting and relief. Constructed from handwoven linen, wood, steel, and subtle integrated lighting, these object-like works investigate the relationship between geometry, materiality, and spatial perception. Central voids, apertures, and layered surfaces evoke recurring themes of absence and transformation while maintaining a continuous dialogue with the TRANSMUTATIO installation. Rooted in the traditions of Minimalism and contemporary object-based practice, the works invite a slow, sensory engagement with space, light, and form.

Floating Intersections Along the Dukai-Frost Axis
Laurine Frost is an internationally acclaimed contemporary electronic music producer and composer who has been actively creating for more than two decades. Her work consistently resists prevailing genre trends, often holding up a distorted mirror to them instead. Now based in Azerbaijan, the Hungarian artist is deeply committed to the belief that meaning and narrative should remain central to electronic music.
Created for István Dukai’s site-specific installation TRANSMUTATIO, Frost’s sonic composition is far more than an accompaniment-it is a statement in its own right. It embodies the value of the ethereal dialogue that has emerged between the two artists, emphasizing the importance of mutual understanding, attentive listening, and shared perception.
Through an endlessly evolving soundscape, Frost transforms the installation into a unified, almost interdimensional environment, completing the spatial vision conceived by Dukai. The duality that permeates Dukai’s artistic practice-where modern industrial geometry intertwines with traditional elements and organic textures-finds its perfect counterpart within this immersive musical composition.
As Frost herself states: “You must hear what you see, and see what you hear.”
